NHS Complaints Advocacy

21st August 2026 / Posted by Family Welfare

Raising a complaint about NHS care can feel daunting, especially when people are already dealing with stress or ill health. NHS complaints advocacy exists to support individuals through the process and help them have their voice heard.

Family Welfare provides independent NHS complaints advocacy for people who want to raise concerns about NHS funded services. This includes hospitals, GP surgeries, dentists, pharmacies and community healthcare providers.

The NHS complaints process involves formal stages and written communication which can be difficult to navigate alone. An advocate helps explain how the system works, what information is needed and what to expect at each stage.

Advocates are independent and do not work for the NHS. Their role is to support individuals, helping them clarify their concerns, prepare correspondence and understand responses received.

Complaints may relate to communication issues, quality of care, waiting times or treatment decisions. Advocacy support helps ensure concerns are presented clearly and confidently.

NHS complaints advocacy empowers individuals to raise concerns and seek answers. Family Welfare offers free, confidential and independent support to help people navigate the complaints process.
